7:00 P.M. 3/29/99
Corrections Committee
Meeting at Shoneys
Meeting was opened at 7:05 P.M.
Ray R. was chairperson.
Ray explained the policy concerning Literature donated by the State to Corrections.
"Any literature donated by the State will be handed to the
inmate for his or her personal use and will remain his or her possession upon their
release."
There was some discussion concerning the large quantity of materials needed to supply
Rutherford County Jail, because the short term facility has such a turnover among the
inmates. It was discussed about the Library that is yet to be opened, supplying enough Big
Books for each inmate participating in an A.A. Meeting. A motion was brought to the floor
by Don M. stating,"That the literature we carry into Rutherford
County Jail will become the property of the Inmate which it is given, unless marked
otherwise upon our request or consent" The motion was seconded and voted upon.
The motion passed all in favor.
There was some questions concerning the length of time suggested to participate in
carrying the message into the Correctional Facility. It is suggested
in our Correctional Facilities Workbook and other literature that we have One year of
continuous sobriety. It is further stated that if we have 6 months continuous sobriety and
are accompanied by a Sponsor with One year continuous sobriety you may participate.
There was some discussion about the need to have a Group Spokesperson for the Corrections
Committee. This person will be the contact between the volunteers and the Jail
Administration and also with our area and Group Representatives.
Punk R. 615-893-5637
Iva P. 615-890-2807
Both Punk and Iva were nominated and elected for these Servants positions.
The state donated a case of 12x12's and a case of Big Books to be
equally divided between the Mens and Women's Group Spokespersons for distribution.
A motion was made to close the meeting, seconded and all in favor.
